Nantes

In just 30 minutes by car from the campsite, you can reach Nantes and the Château des Ducs de Bretagne. Take time to stroll around Place Saint-Pierre and admire the beautiful Gothic cathedral of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, to lose yourself in the paths of the Japanese garden on the Ile de Versailles and to marvel at the illuminated fountain on Place Royale after dark.

After Loire-Atlantique, head for Charente-Maritime and La Rochelle. From the Old Port, walk around the fortifications and through the Porte de la Grosse Horloge to enter the heart of the ancient medieval city.

TIFFAUGES

Want to spend a few more hours in the Middle Ages? Head for Tiffauges near the Lac de la Chausselière campsite, a charming Vendée Tourisme town that’s home to Bluebeard’s castle. Just 20 km from the campsite, Clisson will surprise you with its superb heritage concentrated in the historic center. The château, Saint-Jacques church, Notre-Dame church and Domaine de la Garenne Lemot are just some of the attractions on offer in the Venice of the West.

Cholet

Our campsite is also close to Cholet and another irresistibly charming Vendée town: Mouchamps, the town of Georges Clémenceau, with its listed Saint-Pierre church, its château in the Parc Soubise and the tomb of Georges Clémenceau.

Finally, it’s impossible to mention the most beautiful towns in Vendée without mentioning the islands, spearheaded by Noirmoutier. With its salt marshes, butterfly island, Herbaudière port, fine sandy beaches and 40 km of coastline, the island of Noirmoutier is a small island paradise easily accessible from the Lac de la Chausselière campsite.

This animal park in the Vendée covers an area of 20 hectares, dedicated to animal discovery and family fun. La Boissière-du-Doré Zoo is home to over 800 species, including tigers, lions, bears, iguanas, wolves and birds of prey. Steam train of Vendée

Climb aboard a steam train for a 22 km ride (Round trip) in the Vendée countryside. The train passes through tunnels and viaducts, and a restaurant service is offered during the crossing in a restaurant car whose decoration strangely reminds that of the mythical Orient Express.

If you’re looking for a child-friendly museum in the Vendée, consider including the Mange-Cailloux mineral museum in your tour program. Young visitors will learn more about minerals from around the world and how to recognize them in nature. Gourmets of all ages will appreciate a detour to the chocolate museum just outside La Roche-sur-Yon. The Gelencser chocolate factory is a magnificent showcase for the world of cocoa. The sanctuary of La Salette in La Rabatélière is an amazing open-air Vendée museum. Religious buildings have been built in the heart of a pretty landscaped park, a true haven of peace for nature lovers seeking tranquility during their camping stay in the Pays de la Loire.

The Cugand hydraulic mill, the small mountain of Vendée at Les Herbiers and the Logis de la Chabotterie are among the other sites of interest in Vendée that combine history, architecture and reconnection with nature.

The village of Rocheservière is also one of the main tourist sites in Vendée. It houses a very beautiful church built in the 12th century and an art museum. This architectural complex is called the site of Saint-Sauveur, and its access is free. The Saint-Louis-Marie-Grignion de Montfort basilica in Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful religious buildings in Vendée. Finally, the city of Montaigu, accessible by bike from the campsite Lac de la Chausselière (8 km), houses a castle and a well preserved medieval historic center.
