Unique in Europe, the passage of the Gois
The first crossing dates back to 843 by people from Nantes, prisoners on the island of Noirmoutier, which was at the time a base for the invading Normans. The latter wanted to escape to the mainland. This passage is at the origin of the ascent of the sea bed and was done only on foot. But it is at the end of the 1930s that this mythical passage of Vendée appears.
This passage connects the island of Noirmoutier to the mainland at Beauvoir-sur-Mer, 4.2km of cobblestones. By car, by bike or on foot, take advantage of the low tide to discover this unique passage for 3 hours during the tide. And for the most fishermen among you, it is possible to go fishing.

The dungeon can also be visited, and you will have the chance to have a panoramic view of the island.
The castle of Noirmoutier is open from April 8 to November 5, every day except Tuesday and in July and August 2018, every day.
